My Journey
I’m Danielle Jackson, a mixed media artist based in Horsham, West Sussex.
After many years of not picking up my paintbrushes, while raising my family and being needed elsewhere, I returned to creativity as a way of reconnecting with myself.
My work is layered, intuitive and rooted in colour, botanical forms and expressive mark-making.
Through watercolour, acrylic ink, collage and mixed media, I create paintings exploring identity, resilience, beauty and becoming.
My current collection, Crowned in Bloom, celebrates Afro hair as a Crown, not only as a style, but as heritage, strength, memory and self expression.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a PGCE in Art & Design. These experiences have shaped both my approach to making art and my belief that creativity should be accessible, enjoyable and free from pressure.
Alongside my artwork, I run Pause & Bloom, a welcoming creative workshop designed to help people pause, play and reconnect with their creativity without pressure. The environment that I create is welcoming and centres around encouraging permission to just play and to see “what if.”
In addition to this workshop I run One More Print an introduction to Gelli printing that is playful, colourful, experimental and I have to say, very addictive.
Creativity has become both a return and a beginning for me, a way of making space for growth, joy and becoming visible again. Creativity isn’t a reward we give ourselves when everything else is finished. It isn’t an indulgence, it isn’t frivolous. I spent many years believing I had to earn my way back to creating. But then I realised something. Creativity doesn’t take us away from life… it helps us return to it.
